Creation of a cohort of sewing machine operators at Natpro

NATPRO, a company that manufactures gloves and technical work clothing, is offering paid training to recently hired employees at its Saint-Stanislas plant.

In collaboration with the Human Resources Sectorial Committee of the Textile Industry (CSMO Textile), a cohort of three new employees began training on February 22 as industrial sewing machine operators.

Supervised by a qualified trainer, the sewing workers will be able to perfect their knowledge of industrial sewing on site. The 7-week program will combines both theoretical and practical classes.

"What is difficult in our sector is that there is no longer a diploma course in sewing. So we decided to take the lead and train our workforce ourselves. Our order book is full and we are taking the necessary steps to keep up with our growth," explains Natacha Desnoyers, co-owner of NATPRO.

The work-study program helps meet labour needs in the manufacturing sector by offering new employees customized on-the-job training. This concept can be an effective way to recruit candidates from other sectors.

RETURN OF DIRECT MAIL TO RECRUIT

To recruit the employees of this cohort, NATPRO used a classic idea adapted to its target clientele, i.e. women and men living near Saint-Stanislas.

To reach them, NATPRO sent out postcards in the company's bright colors to 15,000 homes within a 30 km radius last November. The message was simple and addressed to people interested in a career in sewing. Several candidates responded to the advertisement and were hired for the three positions.

NATPRO is still in recruitment mode. Even if the 2022 hiring target has been reached, NATPRO welcomes new applicants to support its growth. In fact, a second direct mail recruitment campaign is being organized and will take place this month. This time, it will be to to recruit for more general positions that affect various departments. So, people of the Mauricie region, watch your mailboxes!
